Saint James’ Way – Camino de Santiago
First of all, it should be noted that this Way, despite having its detractors, is based on a papal bull issued in 1965 by Pope Paul VI, which grants the route linking Tunte/San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Gáldar the same rights as the Ways of St. James on the Peninsula. In recent years, another stage has been added, linking the south with Tunte/San Bartolomé de Tirajana, offering a Way experience that crosses the entire island.
Like all routes, it is not what is written on paper or on maps that defines it, but rather what is engraved in the places by the passage of countless people who, for various reasons, have walked it over time. Thus, this Camino passes through places used by the ancient Canarians, then by the conquistadors, the peasants, and finally the parishioners and, today, the pilgrims.
It passes from the arid south to the humid and lush north, crossing a rugged summit with exceptional views. The route requires between 3 and 4 days (depending on your level of fitness), covering a total distance of 69 km, with a cumulative elevation gain of 2,600 metres and a cumulative elevation loss of 2,400 metres.
The options offered for this long journey are:
- Guided only
This option is the most profound; in addition to requiring active participation from participants in booking accommodation (we offer support in the search, of course) and transport (as an active tourism company, we can only offer activities without overnight stays), it also requires each participant to carry their own luggage;
- All-inclusive
This option involves collaboration with a travel agency that is specialised in crossings and knowledgeable about the peculiarities of the accommodation on offer, as well as transport options and logistical support with luggage transfers between stages.
